Amaran Biotech, a next-generation Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cintrade, a supplier of pharmaceutical equipment and consumables. The partnership aims to jointly expand Water for Injection (WFI) services for the biopharmaceutical industry in Taiwan, helping to stabilize the domestic supply of upstream pharmaceutical raw materials and supporting broader industry adoption of WFI. By integrating WFI solutions into their offerings, the two companies will deliver a more comprehensive and upstream-oriented CDMO service portfolio.
Water for Injection (WFI) is an ultra-purified form of water essential for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Unlike standard purified water, WFI must meet the strictest pharmacopeial standards to be safely injected into the human body. Under the agreement, Amaran Biotech will be responsible for manufacturing WFI in compliance with cGMP regulations and will carry out analytical testing, stability studies, and compliance verification—including sterility testing, endotoxin testing, particulate matter analysis, pH and conductivity testing—along with filling and packaging operations. Cintrade will supply single-use-systems including filtration assemblies and storage bags, manage logistics and distribution, and lead sales and marketing efforts. Initially, the collaboration will focus on serving the Taiwan market.
Amaran Biotech operates a PIC/S GMP-certified manufacturing facility located in the Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park, which has been approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) since 2017. The facility utilizes STERIS Finn-Aqua’s proprietary multiple-effect distillation system, enabling production of WFI that meets international standards including cGMP, WHO, GAMP, HTM2010/EN286, ASME BPE, and GB150, with endotoxin levels below 0.25 EU/mL. The plant also incorporates strict temperature control and continuous recirculation to prevent microbial growth and biofilm formation, with real-time monitoring of critical parameters to ensure consistent water quality.
